Finding Great
Seafood Out
of the Way
What makes enjoying a meal in the
home of a close-knit family is the
care and pride that goes into the
cooking. The mission is always to
impress and not disappoint, and
for those family chefs who step out
to serve the public, that pride is
carried over to everything served
in their diners and cafes.
The recently opened Fisherman's
Seafood Restaurant is a three-gen-
eration effort to bring one family's
love of South Texas seafood to the
rest of the world, and the results
are fantastic! The fish is fresh, the
shrimp are plump, and the hush-
puppies are homemade—a rarity,
even at the most popular Cajun
joints! The one challenge may be
their location, which is inside the
infamous 'Selena motel' on Navi-
gation at IH-37. Worth the drive!
Baare BBQ
Opens on Far
South Side
Bret Worley and his young family
fulfilled a long-time dream that
came with months of tireless work
and a sizable investment, when
Baare BBQ opened this spring on
the far end of South Staples Street.
Fans of real Texas Hill Country bar-
becue, coupled with genuine culi-
nary effort in every side dish and
dessert, will find a home here!
Worley's philosophy is that barbe-
cue is a craft, not fast food, and at-
tention to every detail, from meat
selection to slow fire that produces
the right kind of clean smoke that
brings out the very intentional fla-
vors of the beef, pork, turkey, chick-
en and sausage his new customers
now crave. Baare BBQ opens at 11
a.m. Thursday through Sunday,
until they sell out. Arrange large or-
ders in advance! 7626 S. Staples St.
