b'The Gulf Coast Growth Ventures (GCGV) plastics plant in Gregory is a $10 billion partner-ship between ExxonMobil and the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC).OXYCHEMThe chemical division of the one of the worlds oldest and largest en-ergy companies, Occidental Petroleum, famously led by industry mogul Armand Hammer for decades, operates a multi-faceted facility in Ingleside. The plant produc-es a wide range of chemicals including chlorine, caustic soda, and other chlor-akali products. A 1.2 billion-pound-per-year ethylene cracker is operated on the site, as well as a co-generation power plant fueled by captured hydrogen. Occidental, aka Oxy, is the single, largest crude oil producer in the Permian Basin.CHEMOURSSpin-off business of DuPont was formed in 2015 as the companys performance chemicals division, today producing refrigerant for more than 200 million automobiles and hundreds of thousands of commercial facilities, worldwide, at its Ingleside plant. DuPont de Nemours, Inc., was formed in 1802 as the first Amer-ican producer of gunpowder for the United States military, and over the ensuing two centuries, has impacted the lives of all humans on earth with innovations ranging from nylon and Teflon, to Kevlar and Tyvek, to Mylar and Lycra.KIEWIT OFFSHORE SERVICESOmaha, Nebraska-based, Kiewit Construction was formed in 1884 and has built some of the countrys biggest infrastructure projects that include the Nebraska State Capitol, the 63rd Street Tunnel that connects Man-hattan to Queens in New York, and T-Mobile Park in Seattle, where the Mariners play. Kiewit Offshore Services was officially formed in 2001, following the companys suc-cess at constructing the Bullwinkle offshore drilling platform, then the largest in the world. Over the two decades since, Kiewit Offshore has made history over and over, eclipsing its own achievements in fabricating the largest and most advanced offshore drilling platforms on earth, at its 500-acre facility in Ingleside.AIR LIQUIDEFounded in 1902 and headquartered in Paris, Air Liquide is the worlds second-largest supplier of industrial gases. The company was established to market George Claudes pioneering process of liquefying air for the purpose of separating oxygen, nitrogen and argon. Its scientists and engineers invented the Aqua Lung, which was first used by Jacques Cousteau in underwater dives in 1938, and which led to SCUBA, and later to life-sustaining space suits. Air Liquid operates several facilities in the Coastal Bend, and recently began supplying oxygen and ni-trogen to the Gulf Coast Joint Ventures plant in Gregory.ENBRIDGE INGLESIDE ENERGY CENTERIngleside Point is, arguably, the most strategically significant, industrial-sized location for marine infrastructure on the en-tire Texas Gulf Coast. Positioned along the 52-foot deep Corpus Christi Ship Channel, the site is protected by barrier islands, but is less than half the full distance from Port Aransas to the Port of Corpus Christi. Naval Station Ingleside opened in 1992 as a homeport for U.S. Navy mine warfare training, but was decommissioned in 2010 and turned over to the Port. With its heavy berthing infrastructure and other facili-ties in place and in good condition, and with the onset of the Texas fracking boom, Ingleside Point was sold to Occidental Petroleum for transfer of its massive Permian Basin crude oil production, and then sold to Moda Midstream, and is now owned by Canadian-based Enbridge. The EIEC is now the single, largest crude oil export ter-minal in North America, with plans to expand storage capacity by millions of barrels along with the construction of a major blue ammonia plant and solar power field.100THE COASTAL BEND GUIDE TheCoastalBend.com'
