b'Knowing Your Way AroundOur map depicts the Corpus Christi Bay Area, which is considered the metropolitan heart of the Texas Coastal Bend, the entire area of which extends hundreds of square miles in all directions of the city, except east of course in the Gulf of Mexico.NORTHWEST CORPUS CHRISTI is where the Tulo-so-Midway ISD covers the area immediately west of the IH-37 / North Padre Island Dr. Interchange, running along Leopard St., into the suburb known as Annaville. Farther to the northwest is Calallen, the center of which is the interchange of IH-37 and IH-69 (US 77) and is where Leopard St. becomes Northwest Blvd.OLD CORPUS CHRISTI starts at the northernmost boundary of the city on North Beach, south through Downtown and west up Leopard St., served by Miller High School, and south down Staples and Alameda to the Ray High School area. Southwest of Downtown is the West Oso ISD, located near the Del Mar College West vocational campus.MIDTOWN CORPUS CHRISTI can be considered the area south of Ray HS but east of SPID, including the South Alameda hospital district, Lamar Park, the Town & Country area and south to TAMUCC. This area is in the King High School section of CCISD, and includes up-scale neighborhoods along Ocean Drive and Santa Fe.SOUTHSIDE CORPUS CHRISTI is the most populous area of the city and has been where most of the last decades growth has taken place. Extending from SPID west, the near-Southside could be considered north of Saratoga Blvd., and is virtually built-out, as is much of the area north of Yorktown Blvd. The citys newest residential development is being built south and west off S. Staples St., Airline Rd. and Rodd Field Rd. Veterans Memorial HS is CCISDs latest high school to open, after more than 50 years, but the magnificent new Mary Carroll HS is under construction on Saratoga Blvd.LONDON ISD, 450 acres of which has been annexed by Corpus Christi, is located west along FM 43 (Weber Rd.) and is where more than 900 new home sites will come available over the next two years. The exemplary ISDs student population is now over 1,300 and facilities continue to expand. The neighborhood is fed by the Crosstown Expressway (TX 286) extension.FLOUR BLUFF is between Oso Bay and the Laguna Madre, and is home to Naval Station Corpus Christi, and the Corpus Christi Army Depot, the regions largest civilian employer. The Bluff has experienced record growth in new housing units, year over year, for more than a decade, especially on the mid- to high-end. Ample, open land, large single-family lots and excellent schools in the Flour Bluff ISD are primary attractants.NORTH PADRE ISLAND is a mostly residential commu-nity, with a modest inventory of hotel rooms and over-night condominium and vacation home rentals. Padre Isles, the designation of the islands primary subdivi-sion, is the largest, residential waterfront development outside the state of Florida. Most homes are located on the back side (Laguna Madre side) of The Island, with direct boating access to the Gulf of Mexico via Packery Channel, which was opened in 2006.21'
